Dover took it at Hiland on the tennis courts Tuesday, April 25 at Hiland High School, where the Tornadoes reeled off a 5-0 win.
“We lost 5-0 but we were competitive in most of the matches,” said Hiland head coach Brad Mullet. “Joey (Miller) really had his work cut out for him because Dover’s number one is really good. He’s only lost one match all season.”
At first singles, Garrett Davis remained hit in disposing of Hiland’s Joey Miller 6-0, 6-2. At second singles Dover’s David Williams defeated Timothy Schlabach 6-0, 6-1, but both matches were at least competitive. Dover’s Nick Sowko knocked off Hiland’s Bradley Miller 6-0, 6-1 in third singles play.
The first double action proved to be the most entertaining match-up of the night. Dover’s duo of Javier Fernandez and Thane Lewis were able to fend off Hiland’s Patrick Miller and Will Mast 6-3, 6-4. In second doubles play, Dover’s Charlie Hamm and Rem Swoger won handily over Sarah Kurtz and Alyssa Cooper by a 6-1, 6-0 count.
