The N.C. State Wolfpack won its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) title since 2007 on March 6 in Charolettsville, Virginia thanks to four different wrestlers earning conference championships.
One of those champions was West Holmes alum Max Rohskopf (165 lbs).
Rohskopf was in beast-mode on Sunday winning both matches by point decisions. After a first round bye due to being the weight class’s number one seed in the tournament, Rohskopf beat Virgina Tech’s David McFadden 7-0 to get to the finals and then won 1-0 over North Carolina’s John Michael Staudenmayer.
Rohskopf’s escape with 10 seconds left in the third period against Staudenmayer gave him the only point of the match and the ACC championship title in the 165-pound weight class.
On March 17-19 Rohskopf will now participate in the 2016 Div. I Wrestling Championships held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Wolfpack are the second ranked team in Div. II and Rohskopf can be found in the top 10 individual rankings in nearly every major poll.
