Roden flexes his muscles but Pirates fall to Huskies 74-73 in regular-season finale

Ethan Roden bags 24 boards in loss

The regular season came to an end for the Garaway Pirates in a close loss, but inside of that loss came a monumental game from junior Ethan Roden that was one for the record books.

Garaway traveled to Harrison Central on Friday, Feb. 23 and faced a Huskies team that gets up and down the floor to the tune of more than 80 points per game.

Facing down a terrifyingly fast-paced offense, the Pirates battled hard throughout the game before eventually falling 74-73.

The game was littered with tremendous performances, but none more so than Roden. The burly center scored 18 points and hauled down a stunning 24 rebounds. That rebound number puts him among the all-time single-game rebounding leaders, the current Garaway record held by Bob Raber, who pulled down 29 boards for the Pirates in the 1960-61 season against Stone Creek.

Leading the way in scoring for the Pirates was Erik Miller, who connected for 20 points. In addition to Roden’s 18, Austin Fearon scored 13 and Malik Shaffer added a dozen. Harrison Central was led by Caden Arbaugh and Caden Dalton, both of whom netted 17 points in the win.

Garaway ends the regular season at 14-8 and now prepares to battle its way through a rugged Div. III East sectional-district.
