Rockets make a splash at Ohio Special Olympics State Swim Meet

Eleven swimmers represented Tuscarawas County at the Ohio Special Olympics State Swim Meet. Close to 500 athletes competed in the two-day event, held at the Ohio State University McCorkle Aquatics Center.

For the first time in Rockets’ history, athletes competed in traditional and unified relays. Despite facing some tough competition, the Rockets came away with several medals and ribbons for their efforts.

Results by athlete are as follows:

  • Abby Cool won a silver medal in the 4-by-25 unified freestyle relay and bronze in the 25-meter freestyle race.
  • Diana DeMonte won a silver medal in the 4-by-25 unified freestyle relay and bronze in the 25-meter freestyle race.
  • Joey Fulton won bronze in the 4-by-25 freestyle relay, fourth in the 25-meter freestyle and gold in the 50-meter freestyle race.
  • Cady Harlan won gold in both the 50-meter freestyle race and the 4-by-25 unified medley relay and silver in the 50-meter backstroke.
  • Chance Iannone won fifth in the 25-meter freestyle and bronze in both the 50-meter freestyle race and 4-by-25 freestyle relay.
  • Nate Kamban won gold in the 4-by-25 unified medley relay.
  • Donovan Nolan won gold in the 25-meter freestyle race and bronze in the 4-by-25 freestyle relay.
  • Elise Thompson won gold in the 4-by-25 unified medley relay and silver in the 25-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle races.
  • Emma Ward won sixth in the 25-meter freestyle race, bronze in the 4-by-25 freestyle relay and silver in the 25-meter backstroke race.
  • Kelly Wells won gold in the 4-by-25 unified medley relay and silver in the 4-by-25 unified freestyle relay.
