At the high school level, the Hiland Hawks’ basketball teams do a lot of damage in the Inter-Valley Conference (IVC). Those winning ways have no signs of stopping.

On Feb. 6 in the Hawks Nest at Hiland High School the freshman version of the Hawks found themselves up against a familiar foe in the IVC title game, the Garaway Pirates. Despite having just six players, compared to the massive bench and depth of Garaway, the Hawks came out the victor with a 40-28 win.
The Hawks led just 25-19 at the break and then used a third quarter surge to end the Pirates’ hope of any hardware. The Hawks blasted ahead of the Pirates when they went on a 15-6 run during the period.
Hiland got 3-pointers from Kendall Hochstetler, Kody Miller and Kyle Miler that opened up a lead that would be insurmountable for the Pirates.
Hochstetler finished with a game-high 16 points. Kyle Miller and Kody Miller each had 11 in the Hawks’ win.
Garaway was led by Austin Fearon’s 10 points.
