Malvern deals Lady Pirates a big IVC loss

Kelsi Hulit of Malvern

The Malvern Hornets lost a game they felt they could have won earlier this year at Garaway, but the second time around proved to be a winning formula for Malvern as Doug Wackerly’s crew dealt the Lady Pirates a 65-62 loss in Malvern Wednesday, January 25.

Malvern’s Kelsi Hulit proved to be a one-woman wrecking crew, dominating play on both sides of the floor and posting a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds to help her team fend of the Lady Pirates attempt at another come-from-behind win.

Malvern led 22-20 after the first quarter and stretched that advantage out to 40-31 at halftime. Garaway started to chip away at that lead and trailed by only five points at 52-47 entering the final period, but Malvern was able to hang on for the win.

Sydney Mullet led the Lady Pirates (12-4, 8-2) with 19 points, while Kaitlyn Stress added 12 and Haley Shutt scored 11.
Aiding Hulit, Tara Tucci added 17 points and Hunter Martin tossed in 10 for Malvern (14-3, 10-2).
