On Saturday, Feb. 13 a streak ended.
It wasn’t a winning streak though.
The West Holmes Knights boys’ basketball beat Clear Fork in Millersburg on Saturday 54-49 to end its 18-game losing streak. The win was the first of the year in the Ohio Cardinal Conference for the Knights who are now 2-18 overall on the season. The Knights beat Claymont 52-42 to open the season and then went on the long losing streak.
The Knights are now 1-12 in the OCC with one game to play, which is a make-up game at Cleark Fork. That second match-up with the Colts will actually be played after the Knights’ first tournament game which is on Feb. 19 against New Philadelphia. That tournament game will start at 7:30 and will be played at Ohio University Eastern.
West Holmes trailed at the break by one points to the Colts, 23-22. That didn’t phase the Knights who could taste that a victory was on the cusp.
A hot-shooting third quarter saw the Knights bucket 22 points in the stanza to Clear Fork’s just 12. Early in the fourth quarter the Knights extended their lead to as many as 13 points. A late Colt’s run made the score a bit closer, but it didn’t matter to the Knights who secured the coveted win they have been waiting on.
The Knights were led in the scoring column by junior Josh Goudy in the post. Goudy had 16 points and five rebounds and was a scorching 8-for-10 from the field. Junior Blaine Hager scored 13 points for the winners, including three triples from downtown.
Sophomore guard Chase Wells added 12 for the Knights in the win.
Rounding out the West Holmes scoring; Brenden Bridenthal had six points, Connor Roach had five and Shane Jones added a deuce.
The Colts were led by Chance Barnett’s game-high 23 points.
