In a best-of-three double-header on Saturday, Sept. 23 against Minerva and Strasburg at Strasburg High School, the Lions and Tigers were no match for Hiland.
Hey, if Bears had been present to complete the Wizard of Oz trifecta, they probably would have gone down to the red-hot Lady Hawks too.
Hiland made quick work of both opponents to improve to 13-3 on the season as Adri Bryk’s crew racked up its seventh straight.
Hiland drilled Strasburg 25-19, 25-15 before nipping Minerva 25-23 in the opener and then turning in a much more impressive 25-14 win to wrap things up over the Lions.
In the win over the Tigers, Madison Yoder served for 18 points including four aces while Kim Miller recorded 17 assists and 12 digs. Mya Blochlinger and Madisynn Bryk added 10 and seven kills, respectively.
In facing the Lions, it was almost status quo as the same names dotted the stat sheet leaders for Hiland. Yoder again paved the way to victory with seven service points and two aces. Miller again had 17 assists. Blochlinger and Bryk went seven and six in kills while Kate Hershberger led the defense with eight digs.
