The Garaway Lady Pirates remained on course for an Inter-Valley Conference rivalry game collision with Hiland in the district final as they continue to dominate their opponents in Div. III East district play.

After winning its opening game 69-29 over Newcomerstown, the Lady Pirates crushed Morgan 65-42 on Saturday, Feb. 20 to claim a sectional crown.

The win over Morgan saw host Garaway gain an 18-10 lead through the first period, but Morgan continued to keep things close throughout the half. The Lady Pirates held a 32-20 advantage at the break.

The second half continued to see Garaway simply edge out ahead by small increments as the lead grew until the fourth quarter when it reached 20 points.

Leading the way for Garaway were the dynamic duo of Zoe Johnson and Sydney Mullet, both of whom knocked down 16 points. Haley Shutt added 14, Maddie Metzger scored 13 and Johnson led the team in rebounding with four.

In the earlier win over Newcomerstown, The Lady P’s opened up a huge lead with a monster first quarter that saw them post 27 points. Garaway took a 43-21 lead into the half, then settled in and played some serious defense in the second half, limiting the Trojans to just eight second-half points. The third quarter saw the Lady P’s outscore the Trojans 22-3 to secure the win.

Sydney Mullet led the way with 22 points while Johnson and Shutt each added 10, Lizzie Mullet scored eight, Regula scored seven, Chelsea Rothacher added five, Cassie Donaldson scored four, Morgan Metzger added three, and Makayla Miller and Ashton Gerber both pitched in with two. Garaway forced a whopping 32 Trojans turnovers, compared to just nine themselves. Johnson led the way to a big night on the glass with five rebounds.
