Good things are happening on the floor for the Hiland volleyball program, and that has led to some exciting early-season volleyball.
The Hiland Lady Hawks volleyball team continued to speed along as it traveled to a tri-match and took care of business on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Paying a visit to Smithville High School’s Wilbur Berkey Fieldhouse, the Lady Hawks took on the Smithies and Kidron Central Christian and came away with a pair of victories that improved their overall record to 4-1.
In game one Hiland and Smithville waged an epic start to their confrontation, and the two teams battled back and forth, forcing the game into extra play. Once there Hiland was able to seize control and eked out a 27-25 victory. Hiland kept the momentum going in game two and easily handed the Smithies a 25-14 defeat that earned them a victory in the best-of-three game format.
In the game Mya Blochlinger recorded five kills and added 15 digs for the winners while Kim Miller dished out 14 assists and added five kills. Madison Yoder recorded 11 service points with Madisynn Bryk adding five blocks.
In the nightcap the Lady Hawks faced the Comets and came away with a dominating win at 25-16, 25-11.
In that contest Bryk served up seven points and recorded seven kills. Miller added 12 assists, and Blochlinger dug up a dozen digs.
In the third game of the day, the Smithies toppled the Comets 25-15, 25-16. Haley Boyd led Smithville on the day with 16 points including three aces and added 12 kills and 27 digs. Kenzie Brookover posted a two-match total of 39 assists.
