A youthful West Holmes golf team is going to have to find out what it has by being thrown into the fire, and the competition was extremely tough in the opening days when the Knights traveled to Dover to play in the TCC Saints Invitational at Union Country Club. Not only are the Knights young, so too is their new coach Isaac Haver.
It was a perfect day weather-wise for golf, but Union Country Club can be an adventure regardless of the weather conditions. Minus number-one man Carter Hahn, the Knights managed a 373, placing them 10th in the 14-team tournament. Leading the way for West Holmes was Evan Yoder with an 86, followed by Walker Uhl with a 93, Gavin Christine with a 95 and Brett Mirich with a 102.
The Knights showed a ton of improvement when they traveled to the Clear Fork Invite at Deer Ridge Golf Course two days later and finished off the first competitive week of the season with a fifth-place finish out of 10 teams, firing a 354. Pacing the Knights again was Yoder with an 82 while Hahn returned and was right behind him with an 83. Uhl played solid golf with an 89, Christine and Mirich both shot 100, and Nick Rohr added a 106.
