Against East Canton last week Hiland softball player Brittany Wengerd had a game-winning walk-off hit to lift the Lady Hawks to their second win of the season. Wengerd smashed a hit back up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Hiland the 11-10 conference victory.
“We couldn’t ask for a better kid to have up there in that situation,” said Hilandhead coach Ellie Beam of Wengerd. “These kinds of games are so fun, but I’d prefer not to have a heart attack any time soon with finishes like these.”
Earlier in the week Wengerd and the Lady Hawks romped Central Christian 12-1. Against the Comets, Wengerd was in command in the circle striking out 11, a career high.
