On Friday Feb. 20 the West Holmes Knights lost their opening tournament game to New Philadelphia, but the Knights’ season wasn’t over.
They had one more make-up game to play against Clear Fork, an Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) opponent that they beat earlier this season. The previous win against the Colts was just the second of the campaign for the Knights.
Add another one.
West Holmes got a career-high 23 points from Blaine Hager to pick up its third win of the season with a heart-pounding 58-57 win in Butler on Feb. 21.
Hager was a smooth 7-for-14 from the field including four triples to lead the way for the Knights. Junior Josh Goudy added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Knights and Connor Roach had 11 points and six rebounds. The three juniors combined for 50 of the Knights’ 58 points.
Chase Wells added six and Brayden Chaney had two points for West Holmes who finish their season 3-20.
The Knights trailed at the half 30-29, each team scored 14 points in the third quarter and then the Knights out-scored Clear Fork 13-10 in the game’s final stanza to bring home the ‘W’.
Chance Barnett led the Colts in the scoring column with 20 points. Christian Beer added 11 for the Colts who end the season with a 4-18 and 1-14 in the OCC.
