What a difference a week makes. In Garaway’s first action a week ago senior Colton Fender went out and fired an uncharacteristic 89 to open his season. Golf being the challenging sport that it is, it’s tough to rebound in such a way that Fender did. At the Jackson Invite this week Fender got right back to it and had himself a day carding a 75 to tie for the team medalist and help the Garaway Pirates to their fourth place finish with a total score of 316.
With teams like Pickerington North (325), Walsh Jesuit (315, good for third), GlenOak (335) and Hoban (323), along with the champion and runner-up teams, Garaway accepted the challenge of going head-to-head with some big schools with talented programs, knowing that facing that kind of competition will only make them better as the season progresses. And Fender was a big part of the early season success.
