The Garaway Pirates junior varsity team participated in the Horseshoe Classic on Monday, Aug. 7 at Westfield Country Club in Seville. The Pirates junior varsity crew fired a 340 for their team score, which placed them second out of 15 teams, eight strokes behind the winning North Royalton team that shot 332.
Garaway sophomore Ethan Miller was the medalist for the tournament with a 78, and Garaway varsity coach Brad Nyholm said it was exciting to see Miller step up and stare down a challenge after qualifiers didn’t go his way.
“We are going to have kids challenging each other for varsity playing time all season, and it was great to see Ethan step up and work his tail off all week long after he struggled during qualifiers. He worked hard and stepped up, and it paid off.”
Other scores for the JV Pirates included Christian Yoder (86), Erik Miller (88), Mikey Blauch (88), senior Ethan Miller (90) and Seth Hershberger (108).
