Game 16 of Classic in the Country XIII featured the undefeated Sidney Yellow Jackets from the Greater Western Ohio League of Ohio’s Div. I and the Bears of North Royalton. The Bears came into this game as a member of the Suburban League and sport a 10-5 record.

In the end, Sidney would stay undefeated with a 58-44 win over North Royalton. North Royalton drops to 10-6 on the season and Sidney remains a perfect 16-0.

Taiyier Parks (video) led the Bears to a 19-12 lead after one quarter, scoring nine first period points. She’s a 6’2″ freshman playing for her first time at the Classic.  The undefeated Yellow Jackets then got things going to draw a bit close by half with a short 4-0 burst to end the half.  North Royalton led at the break 26-22.

Sidney’s Celena Taborn and Sylvia Hudson both scored in the paint (videos) to give Sidney a 38-32 lead heading into the game’s final stanza.  Hudson ripped down a rebound and used pure will to get a basket among the bigs. Sidney would out-score North Royalton in the third quarter to take back over the lead for good.

North Royalton would get as close as 48-40, but Ashley Egan hit a triple, Kaitlyn Davis hit a lay-up and Hudson got an open floor gimme to open it up late, 55-42 Sidney with 1:00 to play.

Hudson missed equaling Solon’s Dee Bekelja for the Classic’s most-points scored by one, putting up 29 points against North Royalton on Monday at CitC.  She was a torrid 14-for-18 from the field, which if you think about may be the most impressive stat of this year’s Classic.

6’3″ freshman Celena Tabron also had a fantastic game for the Yellow Jackets scoring 13 points and yanking down 12 rebounds.  She had five offensive boards.  Kaitlyn Davis added eight points for undefeated Sidney.

Fresham Taiyier Park finished the game with 22 points, the high for any freshman at Classic in the Country XIII.  Julianne Lebo had 12 points and a strong effort for the Bears.

Sidney was just the second team to shoot of 50 percent from the field in this year’s Classic.  Mount Notre Dame shot 52 percent against West Holmes in game three and Sidney shot 52 percent as well.
