In game 10 of Classic in the Country, the showcase hit its stride at the halfway point with a superb match-up of Div. I’s best. The no. 2 ranked team, Pickerington Central and Div. I’s third-ranked team Lakota West.  Lakota West is the reigning Div. I state champion.

Both teams carry a plethora of young talent, which made the match-up that more exciting.  On Jan. 17 in the Reese Center, a familiar theme continued.  The team that got out to the quick lead, hung on for the win.  This time around it was Lakota rolling to a 17-4 in the first quarter and then hanging on for a 58-48 win over the Tigers.

The Firebirds led at the half 32-19 and then was out-scored by Pick Central in the third quarter 12-10 and the fourth 17-16.  The early Firebirds’ margin was just too much to recover from for the Tigers.

In 28 minutes, West Virginia University commit, Lakota senior Nia Staples, did a little bit of everything scoring 18 points against Pickerington Central and leading her team in scoring.  She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Firebirds.

Lakota senior Danielle Wells (video) turned in a good game to dropping 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.  Sarah Jones hit a pair of 3’s to lead the Firebirds in that department and finished with seven points.

Junior Elizabeth Fee led Pick Central with 11 points, nine rebounds and one steal.  Madison Greene just got into double-digits with 10 points for the Tigers.

Lakota West out-rebounded the Tigers 42-28.

Reynoldsburg shot just 4-for-11 from the line.
