Malone University’s Christopher Cannon took part in USA Track & Field’s Junior Outdoor Championships on Sunday in Bloomington, Indiana.
Competing against a field comprised primarily of NCAA Div. I student-athletes, the Wooster High School grad registered a seventh-place finish in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:59.75.
Cannon’s participation in the national event comes following a strong freshman season for the Pioneers. At the 2018 Great Midwest Indoor Track & Field Championships, Cannon earned G-MAC Second Team honors after helping the Malone distance medley relay team to a second-place finish. He also placed fifth overall in the indoor mile and seventh in the 800 meters. Then during the G-MAC Outdoor Championships, Cannon took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and seventh in the 1500 meters.
The USATF Junior Championships feature the nation’s top junior athletes age 14-19. The top-two finishers in each event will represent the United States at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland July 10-15.
